set in a world where quirks are new but a lot of their friends and allies are already here bc reasons. the hero system is not in place.
they meet in orientation (supposedly). bakugou katsuki was striking, blonde, red eyes, looking more that she belongs on the catwalk and not in their office building. with sharp wit and sharper tongue, she very quickly got a reputation to not ask her for anything frivilous.
midoriya izuku, on the other hand, was easily forgetable, small, mousy and tended to stutter. fantastic work ethic, always able to do tasks perfectly and fade into the background, the way managers like their OLs to be. Their desks were next to each other and, to most people, it appeared that Bakugou couldn't stand Midoriya's presence, always snapping at her as the two did data input and snarling as she got called away to get tea for the next meeting.
most people, however, would be wrong.
........
“Kacchan!” Izuko whined as the taller blonde cornered her in the records room. It was dark and gloomy inside the enclosed space, made worse by the lack of outside noise as the building was desserted save for them, a few other workaholics, and janitorial staff at this late hour.
“What are you doing here still? You should have left ages ago.”
“Waiting for you nerd,” Katsuki smirked, forearms against the record cabinent as she enclosed in the shorter woman's space. “Can't believe you agreed to work late on the Matsuda proposal. Not like those dumbfucks could even do it when we're the ones doing research and legwork.”
Izuko gave a noncommital hum. “While that's true, it's more because I wanted a chance to be here undisturbed.” Even with someone leaning into her, Izuko continued to card throug the files, skimming through in her search.
“How about I give you a hand?” Katsuki's warm breath fans against her neck, making Izuko shiver.
she's tempted, the thought of having katsuki help her (or “help” her, because that definitely felt like an invitation for other things) was tempting but...
“I don't think Bakusatsuo should keep the rest of the city waiting.”
Izuko turned just enough to see the pout on Katsuki's face (not that she would say that to her face) but the blonde lets up with a sigh. “Fine, fine, I'll go but you stay safe.”
“You too.”
They had to be. ///
In a world where people can suddenly find themselves with fantastical powers, there are plenty who were willing to hurt once friends for showing such irregularaties. And just as many people who find themselves with powers willing to terrorize and abuse others with them.
So Bakusatuso took to the streets (er, the rooftops, really) like a real life superhero from the comics she and Deku used to read, ready to assist when needed and dip out the moment police wanted to arrest her for using her poweres to help. There's static in her ear before a voice pips in, “Running solo tonight?”
“Deku's caught up doing shit,” she quips, voice low as she scanned the skies. Nothing so far, but it meant nothing.
Yaoyorozu hummed in thought, “I was actually wondering why you weren't pairing up with Red Riot or Uravity, but I see your priorities are elsewhere. You know even if she wasn't investigating, no one would want her to do a patrol so soon after...” Her voice trailed off, but Katsuki didn't urge her to complete that thought. No on wanted the reminder of the quirk smuggling ring they had uncovered too late and the victims Deku found.
“We can't bench her forever,” Katsuki replies instead. And it's true. Even if her father and All Might tried to keep her out of things, Deku would push to be on the front lines. That's just the kind of woman she was.
“Which is why she's doing her all to investigate the company you work for. She's not benched, just moved to a different department for now.”
Katsuki knew that too, but not having her partner at her back still made her feel exposed. Teaming up with other friends was fine, for a time, but she missed being the Wonder Duo.
“Has anything we've pulled so far helped?”
“We're still working on it – it's hard, we have so many moving parts and making sure we don't make something blow up in our faces prematurely.”
“Like Deku's old man and All Might getting into a row in HQ?”
“Yes, like that. Todoroki-san having to be at the Diet has made it less likely to have screaming matches though.”
“Thank fuck for small mercies.”
Todoroki Enji was a politician and often the public face of their efforts for laws to help those with special powers, supposedly spurred on by the attack that had scarred his youngest son when he was a rising member of his party due to the power he manifested. And while Shouto getting hurt had added fuel to the fire almost two decades ago, he had been working since getting into politics to help those like him while his (former? current? Bakugou didn't understand his and Yagi's relationship) best friend helped try and change public opinion as the smiling heroic vigilante All Might, using his powers to help any and everyone.
Over the years, they had gained more and more allies, like the Yaoyorozu family and the Hatsumei's. Even Katsuki's own parents had been brought into the fold, helping to create iconic but protective gear and costumes to keep everyone who went out safe (and fashionable). Izuko's parents were kind of the same way – Inko had been friends with Enji and Toshinori and had helped worked logistics (probably how those two didn't kill each other accidentally in the early days) and did a lot of the recuriting. Deku's old man – Hisashi, better known by his irregularity called All for One – had been pulled in by the small woman (almost literally). He was considered a founding member, in part because he was arguably the strongest fighter they had, but preferred to stick to researching irregularities, or taking them from people who had gone beserk or couldn't handle their powers. They were a ragtag bunch but Katsuki was more than willing to take a hit for any of them (and has on multiple occasions) in the fight to be able to use her powers freely and not be seen as a freak.
more thoughts on this AU – BKG and Mido went to some very well known universities. Working at the company they're at is def a step down compared to what they could do, but the company seems to be involved in quirk experimentation and smuggling and thats bs they can't abide by.
other people who are associated with them – kiri and uraraka are mentioned in thread, the iidas are there too, although they're a smaller political name, both tensei and tenya are lawyers. ashido has recently been pulled in because she's dating both uraraka and kirishima.
kaminari and shinsou are partners. aizawa is a teacher and tired and a member as well. present mic is a radio dj and helps find info on “troubled teens” who needs out of bad situations because of their quirk (which isn't called quirks yet in this AU).
Yagi doesn't and OFA, he has a basic enhancing quirk that he uses really well. the original (and only) OFA was killed in a riot which is was AFO is a bit of a worry wort about his kid. Nana and Gran are old and gray and try to keep people grounded. Shimura Tenko is a member too
along with people like Hawks.
Enji and Rei definitely had a political marriage and are first gen quirks which neither of their parents mentioned. They found out on their wedding night when they first try to have sex. they care for each other but aren't in love in love?
they love all 4 of their kids but they always have to be carefull with their abilities esp enji because his hellfire flares up when he's mad or frustrated (which is all the time when working in politics)
