Being a professional battle trainer and a mother at the same time seems to be more impossible than not. While there were plenty of male trainers in their 20s and 30s on the circuit, a lot of the girls she battled as a teen have since settled down, traded active battling to the joys and tribulations of battling bed times and the inability to eat their vegetables as all kids had. Mitsuki had refused and bless Masaru for being willing to move with her when she took over the Musutafu gym, unwilling to settle down even after getting married.
(And Mistuki is still sore when the old champion of the Kanto region Delilah stepped down because she was having a family, practically throwing the match to that upstart from Blackthorne City!)
And being married and the leader of a gym is awesome. Sure her brat is a terror, but Katsuki keeps all her pokemon on their toes, along with whatever ones Masaru is currently breeding.
So imagine her surprised when a green hair woman right around her age came to her gym to challenge her, with an equally green haired limpet clinging to her skirts.
